Get ready to spread the love this Valentine’s Day with some hands-on math and literacy centers for kindergarten! These free Valentine’s Day centers are engaging, interactive, and most importantly, fun for your students.
Why Are Centers Important?
Centers have always been a class favorite. This time of day is a time when students get to work more independently or in small groups, and really get to practice so many different math and literacy skills while they think they are playing games.
It is a time of day when students are sad when it is time to clean up because they are so engaged and having so much fun with the activities. I truly believe so many of my student’s understanding and mastering of different skills have come from their time working in centers.
Centers provide a variety of kid-friendly activities that cater to different learning styles, making it easier for every student to participate and succeed.
Not only will your students have a blast with these Valentine’s Day centers, but they’ll also develop critical thinking abilities and build a solid foundation in key academic areas.

1. Beginning Sounds Match
Students get to practice saying the picture name on the heart and listen for the beginning sound letter. Then, students will match the picture on the heart to the penguin with the same beginning sound letter.
2. Addition Mystery Picture
This center activity has students solving different addition equations and matching the equation on the puzzle piece to the sum on the mat. When all of the puzzle pieces are placed on the correct sums, a mystery picture will appear! Hint: It is a Valentine’s Day-themed picture.
3. CVC Words Match
During this time of year, students are starting to put individual sounds together to read words. Their phonemic awareness is growing and getting stronger each day and this center activity has students sounding out CVC words on the tadpole and placing the frog with the matching picture on the word.
4. One-to-One Correspondence
There are so many ways to practice counting. However, one-to-one correspondence can be tricky at times. This center activity has students counting out the correct number of dog bones to show the number that the dog has on the balloon he is holding.
