Are you looking for a way to add more engagement to your February lesson plans? Crafts are always a great option! In this post, I’m sharing some of my favorite February crafts for kindergarten that you can use to keep students engaged in important learning and review.

8 February Crafts for Kindergarten
Craft projects are an excellent way to bring some additional fine motor practice to your daily learning routine. In addition to improving hand strength and coordination, these craft ideas can also help to enhance your February lesson plans.
1. Valentine Mouse Craft
This Valentine mouse craft is a great follow-up activity for a read aloud of “The Biggest Valentine Ever” by Steven Kroll. Students love to make their own version of the valentine that the mice made in the story.

Students can practice important fine motor skills as well as comparison vocabulary as they assemble this craft. For example, they will need to use the biggest heart for the body. Plus, the completed crafts make a festive Valentine’s Day bulletin board!
2. Valentine for a Friend
Students can also wish their friends a happy Valentine’s Day by crafting their own Valentine card. First, students will write the name of their friend on the card and then write a kind sentence about their friend. They can then cut and paste their heart-shaped writing paper to a colorful heart.

You can also have students embellish their crafts with stickers and markers before delivering their cards. This is a great way to make writing practice meaningful for students!
3. Valentine CVC Word Builder
Your class can also put together a craft that will help them practice CVC words. Students will color a strip of pictures that represent CVC words. They will then thread the strip through a heart-shaped word building mat.

When they slide the picture strip through the mat, they will have a new CVC word to build. They can use letter tiles to spell the word that matches the picture. Students will be so excited to use the word builder that they’ve built! This is a fun way to keep students motivated to practice building and reading CVC words during centers time.
4. 3D Heart Noun Practice
Crafts can also help students with grammar practice! This 3D heart gives students the chance to better understand what a noun can be. Each side of this three-dimensional craft focuses on a different type of noun: Person, place, or thing.

Students will draw and write about a person they love, a place they love, and a thing they love. Once these writing tasks are completed, students will assemble the hearts into a 3D craft! Since these hearts can stand up on their own, they make a great classroom decoration for Valentine’s Day. They look great on desks, bookshelves, and window sills!
5. Ladybug Addition Craft
You can also add some Valentine’s Day fun to your math practice using crafts! This ladybug craft gives students the chance to practice counting and addition with one fun craftivity.

Students will add hearts of two different colors to the wings of the ladybug. They will count up the total number of hearts on their ladybug’s wings and write the sum in the middle of the craft. After assembling the ladybug math craft, students can summarize what they’ve done with some writing practice. They will write how many of each heart color they added to the ladybug and then complete an addition sentence to model the total number of hearts. These crafts look great on a bulletin board!
6. Voting Craft
Valentine’s Day isn’t the only day that we can celebrate in February! As your students learn about Presidents Day, they can use crafts to enhance their learning.

For example, after discussing how a president is elected, students can complete their own voting booth craft! Students can write about why they would make a good president, then add that writing to a voting craft. These can be used for a fun and interactive bulletin board display! People love to open the crafts and read more about the “candidates”.
7. Presidents Day Book
Students can also document what they learn about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln in a book that incorporates some crafting fun.

Students can create portraits of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln using paper.

They can also complete a lift-the-hat craft to show what Abe kept in his hat and what they would keep in their own hats. Students are always so excited to take home this book and share what they’ve learned with their families.
8. American Symbols Book
Finally, you can also add crafting to a unit about American symbols! As students learn about each American symbol, they will complete a coloring page and information sheet about each one.

Once all of the pages are complete, students can assemble them into an American symbols book that they can take home. They can personalize their books by decorating the front cover with patriotic colors and shapes.
