Among all of the fun spring activities and celebrations at the end of the school year, Father’s Day is one of my favorites! It is so fun to help students celebrate the fathers and other special father figures in their lives. With everything else going on at the end of the school year, it can be tricky to come up with creative Father’s Day gift ideas. In this post, I’m going to share three Father’s Day card craft ideas that your students (and their dads) will love. These handmade cards will be a treasured keepsake for years to come!
Before we dive into the fun Father’s Day ideas, I wanted to share a few reasons why these crafts are beneficial to young students. With everything on our plates at the end of the school year, it might seem easiest to leave craft time off the busy schedule. However, there are many reasons why crafts like these Father’s Day cards are worth the effort:
Crafts are an engaging way to practice a variety of fine motor skills. Students are so excited to create a gift for their dads that they often forget they’re hard at work! Father’s Day card crafts have many opportunities for coloring, cutting, folding, and gluing! All of these tasks can help children improve their hand strength as well as hand-eye coordination.
Completing a card for a special person adds an extra level of engagement to writing practice. Father’s Day cards are no exception! There’s something special about writing for someone outside of their usual audience of teachers and peers, especially when writing to loved ones. Students love to fill out their Father’s Day card crafts with special thoughts and greetings! Students can practice writing letters, completing sentence frames, and more. As they write these special greetings, it’s a great opportunity to encourage them to take their time on letter formation so that their loved ones can read what they write.
Another helpful reason to use crafts in the classroom is that it gives students the opportunity to practice following step-by-step directions. Craft activities can serve as a visual reminder of how important it is to pay attention to instructions. Students can see the impact of following directions on the final product. The ability to follow directions is a skill that students will use for the rest of their lives!
A Father’s Day card craft is a great way to celebrate the important people in your students’ lives. The children in your classroom have been supported by these important people throughout the school year, so it’s a great time to show them some love in return! Since students can customize their own Father’s Day cards, it leaves plenty of room to account for family diversity. In fact, the ideas that I’m going to share today include options for other important father figures.
Once you’ve decided that a Father’s Day craft should have a spot in your schedule, it’s time to choose one! Here are three Father’s Day card craft ideas that are easy for you to prep, fun for students to make, and memorable for dads to receive!
All About My Dad questionnaires are always a hit for Father’s Day, but this tool belt card gives it a fresh spin! Each paper tool cutout in this card has a sentence frame that you might typically find on an All About Dad worksheet. It’s always fun to see what students come up with as they fill in the tool sheet.
After completing the sentences, students can then color and cut out each tool and place it in the completed tool belt card. The end result is a Father’s Day keepsake that will be treasured for years to come!
Another fun twist on the All About My Dad activity is a Father’s Day toolbox card. This craft uses the same fun set of tools, but presents them in a different way! The “Happy Father’s Day” greetings on the front of the toolbox can be substituted for “Thanks Grandpa” or “Thanks Uncle” in order to be sensitive to other family situations. There are tool templates to match, as well.

Another unique Father’s Day card idea is to turn it into a tie and make it wearable! This two-sided 3D tie craft is always a hit! It can be worn with pride during Father’s Day festivities, then tucked away as a special keepsake.
To make this craft, students start by choosing which greetings they would like to include on each section of the 3D tie. After coloring these greetings and gluing the pieces together, a tie-shaped Father’s Day greeting is added to the back. There are multiple choices for these greetings, including:
