Dr. Seuss Week… and TONS of FREEBIES!!!!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!! It was so exciting that we were at school on the day of Dr. Seuss’s birthday this year! We celebrated his birthday all week by reading many of his books and doing lots of fun activities to go along with them.
This week I have included ALL of the activities that we did for FREE!!! Feel free to grab them for your classroom if you see any that you enjoy! You will find each of the activities as you read about our week below 🙂

Come take a peek at our Read Across America week!

Monday: The Cat in the Hat

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!! We had lots of fun making a hat just like the Cat in the Hat! We wrote words that rhymed with ‘cat’ on each stripe of the hat.
Dr. Seuss Week... and TONS of FREEBIES!!!!
We solved addition and subtraction equations that were also on the hat of the Cat in the Hat. We placed them on top of the answer and glued them so that they would pop up to see the answers. You can grab this activity HERE!

We also did an addition/subtraction mystery picture. Once they solved and placed the answers on the correct equations, a mystery picture appeared! You can grab this activity HERE!
We had fun finding rhyming pictures with Thing 1 and Thing 2. You can grab this activity HERE!
We walked around the room to find words that began with each letter in ‘Cat in the Hat’. You can grab this activity HERE!

We wrote about if we would or would not let the Cat in the Hat in our house! You can grab this activity HERE!

Tuesday: Horton Hatches an Egg

We practiced making different kinds of patterns on eggs. You can grab this activity HERE!
We read addition and subtraction stories and solved them using pictures. You can grab this activity HERE!

After reading Horton Hatches an Egg, we talked about whether or not we would take care of the egg like Horton. Then we talked about why or why not. We wrote about it on an egg shaped writing page and then turned it into a craft with Horton sitting on the egg! I let the students decorate their egg however they wanted. They turned out so cute! You can grab this activity HERE!

I found this HUGE plastic egg at Walmart  (it was clear so I spray painted it red to look like Horton’s egg) and I filled it with a surprise for my students. We predicted what it would be and then opened it up to see what it was! I loved reading their predictions. I hope I didn’t let any of them down! You can grab the prediction and results activity HERE!

Wednesday

**As much as I have tried to stay healthy this year, it got the best of me today.
I had to take a sick day 🙁

Thursday: Green Eggs and Ham

We had a blast decomposing 10 today! Each student had an egg shaped paper. They spilled ten beans (spray painted green) onto the egg. They looked to see how many beans landed on the egg and how many landed off the egg to determine an addition equation that equals 10. You can grab this activity HERE!

Then we determined how many to ten using a ten frame. We painted green dots using a Q-tip in the ten frame to help us determine how many more we needed to make 10. You can grab this activity HERE!!
The moment had come that I was nervous about ALL DAY!! It was time to make green eggs!! I have never made it in this pot before and was VERY nervous. On top of that, I am not the best cook in the world! I am awful at cooking to be honest! I let each student crack an egg and we added the green food coloring…
And about 2 hours later, we had cooked and hopefully edible green eggs!!!
Now it was time to put my cooking skills to the test…
And I would say it was a success!!!! The majority of my students liked them!!! Thank goodness!! You can grab this graphing activity and students recording sheet HERE!

Friday: One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

We read some addition stories in a mini reader, drew pictures to go with the story, and wrote an addition equation. You can grab this activity HERE.

We also created our very own addition stories in a fish bowl! I had my students pick as many fish as they would like, color the fish 2 different colors, and then glue them in the fish bowl. After they did that, they wrote a short addition story to go with it. You can grab this activity HERE!

I hope you all had a wonderful week! If you did not grab the FREEBIES, make sure to go back through this post again to grab all 14 FREEBIES from this week!! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
