Are you looking for an easy way to bring some holiday fun to your classroom this fall? Check out these free digital Halloween centers for kindergarten. You and your students will love these no-prep literacy and math activities with a Halloween twist.
Digital Halloween Centers for Literacy Practice
October is such a fun month for kindergarten students! Unfortunately, this means that students can be more excited about costumes and candy than practicing literacy skills. These engaging Halloween centers will help students review letters and sounds in a fun way.
1. Letter Matching
Students can practice letter identification by matching uppercase and lowercase letters in this fun activity with this trick-or-treat twist!
The trick-or-treaters in this activity need their buckets! Each child has an uppercase letter on their costume. Students will identify the lowercase letter on each trick-or-treat bucket, and then drag it to the correct trick-or-treater.
2. Beginning Sounds
Your students will be able to practice their phonemic awareness skills with this digital center by identifying beginning sounds. Students identify pictures, determine what sound is at the beginning of the word, and then match it to the corresponding letter.
Once students know where the picture belongs, they will drag and drop them to the correct first letter. As they do this, they will be building Frankenstein monsters for some spooky Halloween fun!
3. Ending Sounds
In addition to beginning sounds, students can also identify ending sounds to practice phonemic awareness with a Halloween color-by-code activity.
In this literacy center, students will have a black-and-white grid of letters along with a code for coloring in the boxes. The code is based on ending sounds, which each colored box represented by a word that’s missing its ending sound.
Once students have figured out the ending sound of a word, they will drag the corresponding colored squares onto each letter that matches that ending sound. Students will love watching this spooky picture come to life as they drag and drop the colored squares!
Digital Halloween Centers for Math Practice
The Halloween fun can also extend to math practice! These digital centers will help your students review important math skills in a fun way. They are perfect for independent skill practice during your daily math rotations in October.
1. Number Sense
The ghosts in this digital center are looking for a house to haunt! Each house has a number on it and students will use their number sense skills to match the ghosts to the correct house.
Each ghost has a different representation of a number, including ten frames, fingers, and dice. This is a fun way for students to build their number sense skills for future math practice.
2. Counting
In this activity, the witch is collecting cauldrons to make her potions and your students can use their counting skills to help! They will drag and drop cauldrons in front of the witch until they’ve moved enough to match the number on the slide.
This is a great way for students to practice one-to-one correspondence as well as number identification! In addition to the witch activity, there are more Halloween-themed scenes for a total of ten counting activities! Your students will be able to play again and again, making it easy for them to stay engaged until it’s time to rotate to the next center activity.
3. Subitizing
This color by code activity gives students the chance to practice subitizing. They will have a black-and-white grid of numbers that, when colored in, will create a fun Halloween picture. Students will figure out which color belongs on which number by using their subitizing skills to identify the number of dots in different configurations.
Once they have identified the number of dots, they will drag the corresponding colored boxes onto the numbered spaces on the grid. Your students will love completing the two Halloween-themed pictures!
Your students will love these literacy and math centers so much, they won’t even realize they’re hard at work! They will be eager to complete these digital Halloween centers.
Fun Ways to Use Digital Centers in the Classroom
One of the best parts of digital activities is that they can be used throughout the daily routine. In addition to literacy and math centers, here are some other ways that you can incorporate these Halloween centers into your October lesson plans:
October Early Finisher Activity
It’s always nice to have some no-prep activities on hand for early finishers. Themed activities can be a great way for students to stay engaged in worthwhile activities while they wait for the next transition.
Rainy Day Recess Option
Fall can be cold and rainy, which means indoor recess is a regular possibility! It’s nice to have a wide variety of activities on hand for students to use during rainy day recess. Since these activities are Halloween-themed and engaging, students will feel like they’re playing games!
They are quiet, easy to set up, and even easier to put away when recess is over. This makes digital centers a perfect option for indoor recess!
