Kindergarten Memory Book Ideas

One of my favorite keepsakes to send home with students at the end of the year is a kindergarten memory book. There are so many ideas for what to include in these books, it can be hard to narrow them down. After all, you don’t want to spend the entire last month of school working on a memory book! In this post, I’m going to share some of my favorite kindergarten memory book ideas to help you create a special memento for your students.

6 Kindergarten Memory Book Ideas

It can be challenging to decide how many pages to include in a memory book for kindergarteners, especially if they are creating their own pages. Too many pages and they’ll be working on it for weeks. Too few pages and it will be more of a pamphlet than a book. Here are some of my favorite pages to include in an end of the year memory book.

1. All About Me

One of my favorite pages to include in a kindergarten memory book provides a snapshot of the student and their school year. This page could include things like the student’s name and age, along with a self-portrait.

Facts about school year and class

They can also document facts from the school year, like their room number, teacher’s name, and how they get to school.

2. My Favorites

It’s also a good idea to include a page of the student’s favorite things from that school year. This will be a fun page for them to look back on in the future. For example, they can document their favorite book, color, school subject, and lunch food.

This page is a great addition to the overall snapshot of the student for a memory book. Students will get a good chuckle when they look back on this page and see how things have changed (or haven’t).

3. Special Memories

Another must-have in a kindergarten memory book is a place to document the special things that happened during the school year. This could include a favorite field trip or another memory from the year that sticks out to them.

Students can also document the things they’re most proud of learning during the year. They can also write a list of the friends with whom they made all of their favorite memories.

4. Future Plans

While we tend to think of memory books as an opportunity to look back and reflect on the school year, they can also give students the chance to look forward to the future.

You could give students a place in their memory book to write about what grade they will be in next year, how they feel about it, and what they hope to learn. You could also give them the space to look even further into the future, drawing a picture of themselves in their dream career.

5. Autographs

Another fun page to include in a memory book is a place for autographs. Students can ask peers to write their names in their books. For kindergarten students, this is very helpful fine motor and name writing practice

Signing memory books is a great activity for the last days of school, when you often find yourself with odd pockets of time. Students can easily pull out their memory book and a pencil, then circulate the classroom to ask for signatures.

6. Summer Bucket List

Finally, since students are often dreaming about summer vacation at the end of the school year anyway, you can give them a place to document those dreams! Adding a summer bucket list to your memory book is a great way to help students channel their excitement for the upcoming break.

In my memory book, the bucket list is in the shape of a sand pail and shovel. Students can write the things they’d like to do this summer on the shovel and then place it in the paper bucket. This makes a fun and interactive back cover for the memory book!

When to Assemble a Memory Book

Once you’ve decided how many pages to include in a memory book, you might be wondering how you’ll have time for students to create and assemble their books. Here are a few ideas for when you could work on this project with your class:

  • Centers Time: At the end of the year, you could have a memory book page as one station in your centers. You could have students work on the page during their time at the teacher table so you can be there to help them.
  • Morning Actiivty: Memory book pages could take the place of your traditional morning work during the last week or two of school. You can give students instructions and then provide time to the complete the page before moving on with your daily routine.
  • Class Party: The memory book could be the final activity you do with your class on the last day of school. As part of your class party, students could rotate through stations where they work on one page of their book.
