As the weather warms up in the spring, the school year feels like it starts to move even faster than it has been! You can make the most of these busy months with a variety of engaging activities for your daily learning routine. In this post, I’m going to share some fun spring activities for kindergarten that your students will love!

Spring in the Kindergarten Classroom
The kindergarten classroom is an exciting place to be during the spring months! Students have been working hard to master important literacy and math skills all year and they’re ready to sharpen those skills to prepare for summer break.
Plus, it’s not uncommon for a little bit of “spring fever” to hit the classroom as the weather warms up. This is why it’s so helpful to have a variety of engaging activities on hand to keep students on track and motivated to practice.
There are also many fun spring holidays that you can incorporate into your lesson plans that will help you make special memories with your kindergartners. Celebrating holidays together is such a great part of teaching kindergarten! Plus, embracing the holidays can help students channel some of that seasonal excitement that’s so common during the spring months.
5 Spring Activities for Kindergarten
If you’re looking for some engaging activities to use in your classroom this spring, here are some of my favorites! These hands-on activities will help you create spring lesson plans that will keep your students engaged in skill practice throughout your daily learning routine.
1. Thematic Units
An easy way to incorporate the spring season into your classroom is with thematic units! Students can learn more about spring topics with engaging themed learning activities.

For example, students will love learning facts about the spring season as they complete engaging math and literacy activities, crafts, and more!

Another fun unit for spring is an insect theme! Students will be able to learn about different types of insects while also reviewing important math and literacy skills.
2. Holiday Activities
As the weather warms up and student excitement increases in the classroom, celebrating holidays together as a class can help your students channel some of that energy. By combining literacy and math practice with a holiday theme, students will be engaged in this important skill review.

Easter is a fun spring holiday to celebrate with your kindergarten students! There are so many engaging ways to add an Easter theme to your literacy and math practice, including this writing activity and craft.

For example, students can practice identifying rhyming words with this lift-the-flap activity. Each chick on the worksheet is holding a picture. After identifying each picture, students will find an egg with the rhyming picture and use it to create a flap over the matching chick.
3. Spring Mystery Pictures
A fun mystery picture is always a hit with kindergarten students! This color-by-code activity gives students the chance to review any sight words or phonics patterns that you’d like. Just type in the words you’d like to focus on and create the activity with the click of a button!

The focus words will be added to different squares in the grid and then students will color them according to the code. Your students will love to see the picture come to life as they color each box!
These spring mystery pictures are perfect for morning work, literacy centers, early finishers, and more!
4. Spring Literacy Centers
You can also bring some engaging literacy practice to your daily routine with spring centers. There are many ways that you can bring a touch of the season to your literacy centers.

This frog on a log activity is a fun way for students to practice beginning and ending digraphs. Students will choose a frog card and identify the picture that the frog is holding. Once they identify the correct digraph in the word, they will add the frog to the correct log.

Students can practice word building with these engaging kite- and flower-themed activities. Each activity gives students the chance to listen for phonemes in different positions of a word.

They can also review sight words by building each word with raindrop letters to match the sight word on each cloud.
5. Spring Math Centers
The spring fun can also extend to your math center rotations! There are many different spring-themed activities that can help students review all of the math concepts they’ve been learning this year.

Students can build their number sense skills by building a caterpillar! Students will find the different representations of a number to match the number on the card. Once they’ve put them all together, they will have built a caterpillar!

Math centers can also help your students practice teen numbers. Students can count bees using one-to-one correspondence as they create a group of bees to match the teen number on the hive. This place value butterfly is another fun way for students to practice teen numbers!

For some extra practice with addition and subtraction, spring math centers can be a great option! For example, students can match the correct fly swatter to the fly holding a corresponding addition sentence. Students can also practice subtraction with a bee-themed mat.
