One thing that I have noticed year after year is that my students love mystery pictures. They absolutely love the suspense of not knowing what the picture is going to be until the end and they just can’t get enough.
I noticed early on how much my students love to complete puzzles and color. No matter what time of day it is or what part of the school year it is, they are always so excited when they get the opportunity to work on a puzzle or color. Do you have students like this?
I wanted to make an activity where I could combine a puzzle and coloring while also having students learn/practice/master different math and literacy skills.
With all that in mind, I have created… Math & Literacy Mystery Pictures!
What Are Mystery Pictures?
Mystery pictures are activities where students focus on a particular math or literacy skill. They find the answers to the questions on the specific skill they are focusing on. Then, they use the color code to color the answers in the boxes the correct colors to reveal a mystery picture.
The suspense of what the picture will be in the end keeps students so engaged that they do not even realize they are learning/practicing/mastering different math and literacy skills!
I used some of these mystery worksheets during my summer tutoring and my students could not get enough! They were so engaged while working on the mystery pictures that you could have heard a pin drop! Their excitement and eagerness to do these mystery pictures made me want to make even more! So that is exactly what I did!
I have created over 250 math and literacy mystery pictures.
You can include these mystery picture printables to so many parts of your day. You can add them to your morning work, centers, early finishers, small groups, independent work, homework, extra at home practice, and so much more!
All of the different skills and worksheets included will allow you to add some suspenseful mystery fun throughout the entire year!

Many times we think of mystery pictures being on hundreds charts. I wanted to switch things up a bit and include some literacy into these mystery picture activities. Rather than looking for numbers, students will be using the color code to find the answers to these skills that are included:
- Beginning Sounds
- Ending Sounds
- CVC Words

I have had friends and family (adults) wanting to have their own copy while their children work on these mystery pictures because they want to join the suspenseful fun!
