We had such a fun week continuing Part 2 of my Fun on the Farm Unit! It has been quite the week! I finally got the unit posted in my TPT store and am so excited to share it with you! If you missed Part 1 of our Farm Unit, you can click HERE to see that post.
Check out all the fun we had on Part 2 of our Farm Fun:
All About Chickens
We began the week learning about Chickens. We read a nonfiction book about chickens and made an interactive anchor chart with different facts that we learned from the book.
Then, we wrote some facts on our own that we learned about chickens.
We made a cute chicken craft to place our writing behind the belly!
We read the adorable story ‘Chicken Little’ and sequenced the animals/people that Chicken Little told the sky falling. Then, we retold the story to a friend.
All About Sheep
Our next farm animal we learned about were sheep. We read a nonfiction book about sheep and created an interactive anchor chart with different facts that we learned from the book. (I am so proud of how many facts they remember!)
We wrote some facts on our own about sheep.
We made a sheep and placed our writing underneath the the stomach.
We read a fun rhyming story called ‘Sheep in a Jeep’ and wrote some rhyming words from the story.
All About Horses
Our last farm animal we learned about were Horses. We read a nonfiction book about horses and made an interactive anchor chart with different facts that we learned from the book.
We made an adorable horse to place our writing.
Our Favorite Farm Animal
After we learned about cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, and horses, it was time to pick our favorite farm animal! We made a class graph of our favorite farm animal.
We recorded data to go with our class graph.
We wrote about our favorite farm animal and why it is our favorite. The cover of their writing had their favorite animal. They also made a farmer with their face as the farmer. They turned out adorable! You can open the cover like a book to see their writing!
Here are some math activities we did this week from my farm unit:
We read a farm animals mini reader where they counted the farm animals and wrote how many there were to complete the sentence. They also wrote an addition equation to go with the sentence and pictures.
We practiced comparing numbers on our comparing mats and number cards.
We compared numbers on pigs books!
We played the same card game last week of who has the greater number, but instead of comparing groups we compared numbers!
We sorted animals, graph, and collected data.
We read subtraction stories and showed different strategies to solve the story.
We played an addition and subtraction board game at our tables. They solved the equations and moved that many spaces forward. If they land on a tractor, they start over! If they land in the pond, they get another turn. The first one to the barn wins!
