At the beginning of the year, I like to inform the families about different topics related to how I run my classroom and also some important information about the school. I always send home TONS of papers with students on the first day. I can only imagine how overwhelmed a family must be when they open up their child’s folder and see 10 papers just from me!
I wanted a place where I could communicate with my students’ families all in one place. I created this really fun and eye-catching Parent Handbook Flipbook to send home. Keep reading to see if this is something you’d like to use in your classroom this year!
Using a flipbook for your parent handbook is a great way to share important information with the families of your students. Instead of sending home a stack of loose papers in a student’s folder, you can compile them into a super cute flipbook! This is also a great resource to pass out to families during Meet the Teacher Night.
This is a fun way to share your classroom information with the parents and will surely impress them! Plus, it’s eye-catching and memorable! Your families are much more likely to keep track of important information in this format than a stack of loose papers.
You can also have them translated into Spanish to ensure that this information is accessible for all of the families in your class.
Parent Handbook Flipbook: Cut or Fold?
There are two ways to make a parent handbook flipbook – cutting or folding.
Cut and Staple Parent Handbook Flipbook
You can customize and copy each page template onto brightly colored paper.
Then cut each page into the correct lengths and then staple them together at the top.
Many teachers prefer the foldable flipbook option, which requires absolutely no cutting! This also means that there is no paper waste.
For a foldable flip book, you will need 4 pieces of colored paper. They will be copied with the information that you type front to back once you have edited and printed your flipbook.
Now, I thought the assembly was quick and easy for a cut-and-staple flip book, but the assembly for a foldable flip book is so incredibly fast and just as easy!
Parent Handbook Example Pages
Sometimes it can be hard to condense everything into one flipbook, so I wanted to share some example pages with you. These are samples of things I have included in my own parent handbooks in the past. Just click on each picture to expand and take a closer look.
Printable Parent Handbook Flipbook
I have created a printable resource with both options for a parent handbook flipbook. It’s editable so you can make everything relate to your classroom and your school. That also means that this customizable flipbook can be used in any grade! You can find this parent handbook flipbook in the A Spoonful of Learning shop or on Teachers Pay Teachers.
