Easter Read Alouds

These adorable stories will get students even more excited for Easter. I love to read some of these Easter stories for enjoyment and some that include follow-up activities.

All of these books are a wonderful addition to your classroom library. It is so much fun watching your students pick up a book that you have read aloud to them and listen to them retell the story using the pictures.

Easter Activities for Kindergarten

I am sure that you knew I could not resist creating a thematic unit for Easter. The number of engaging math activities, literacy activities, and ideas are endless!

Let’s take a look at some of the activities included in my Easter Unit.

Secret Number with Jelly Beans

There is something special about plastic Easter eggs. The amount of joy that they bring children is magical. Wait until you see their faces when you tell them that they get to find out what their secret number is when they open up a plastic Easter egg.

Students choosing a plastic Easter Egg from a basket.

Too much excitement to even handle! In all honesty, this Secret Number Decomposing math activity has students choose a plastic egg from a basket. They open up the egg and count how many jellybeans they have. The number of jellybeans they have in their plastic egg is their SECRET NUMBER!

A completed decomposing numbers activity where students decompose a given number with jelly beans. They record all of the addition equations that go with that number on the decomposing numbers worksheet.

Students write their secret number on the Easter worksheet and then begin decomposing their secret number by finding all of the addition equations that they can make with that secret number. The best part is getting to eat those jellybeans at the end!

Rhyming Chicks

Rhyming is such an important skill to continue to practice throughout the year. It not only is enjoyable for students, but it builds early literacy skills like phonemic awareness and fluency development.

An Easter worksheet where students practice rhyming words. Students match rhyming pictures on the eggs with the rhyming pictures on the chick. The egg is glued above the chick. When the picture on the egg is lifted up, a chick is underneath with the matching rhyming picture.

These rhyming chicks are so cute. Especially when they hatch! Students place the egg with a picture on top of the chick that has the correct rhyming picture. They glue the egg and flip it up to see the chick underneath. This interactive part makes it look like hatching rhyming chicks!

Spring M&M’s Sort and Graph

Have you tried the Easter edition M&M’s? I love the colors and they are perfect to add to a sorting activity.

A sort and graph worksheet where students sorted Easter themed M&M's onto a sorting mat. They filled in a graphing worksheet to show how many they had of each colored Easter M&M.

Give each student a fun-size bag of the Easter M&M’s and have them sort the M&M’s onto the eggs by color. Next, students fill in a graph and data worksheet to show the M&M’s they sorted from their fun size bag.

Easter Read Aloud Writing Craft

Have you read the story, “Bunny Trouble“? If your students enjoy sports they will love this soccer loving bunny!

An Easter read aloud follow up activity where students write about a story and what they would do. They also create and bunny craft to go with their writing.

After reading this story, a follow-up activity I like to do is to have students write about what they would do to help save Ralph the bunny. You will have to read the story to find out exactly why he needs help! Of course, I added a bunny craft to go with the writing!

Sorting Addition Equations

Have you been working on decomposing numbers? Students get amazed when different addition equations can equal the same number and this activity does just that!

Students get to solve and sort different addition equations by their sum. They will place the equation under the correct sum on the rabbit. Add a little twist when this activity is completed by folding on the lines and having these rabbits stand up on the table!

Making Predictions with an Easter Read Aloud

Sometimes when I have a read-aloud, I like to stop right at the most suspenseful part! I like to make it even more suspenseful by having students predict what they think will happen.

With the story “The Best Easter Eggs Ever“, I have students predict what egg they think will win the contest. Students get to color the egg what they think and place an egg cut out on top to hide their prediction.

Students show the results of the Easter story after making a prediction. A drawing of 3 different Easter eggs. They have red striped, flowers, and stars, These were the winning Easter eggs at the end of the Easter story.

Then, I gather everyone back together to finish reading the story and to find out if their predictions were correct. Students get to go back to their worksheets and write the result. You can even let your students share their prediction and final results with a friend or with the class!

Easter Bunny Subtraction

We have been continuing subtraction practice. Even though this is a skill that has been practiced for a while, you can always make it engaging and fun with some hands-on activities.

A hands-on and interactive subtraction activity where students practice acting out subtraction equations. Students place the correct number of carrots from the garden into the rabbit cup to show how many are left in the garden. Students record their answers on the subtraction worksheet.

This Easter math activity has students practice solving subtraction equations by placing the correct number of carrots in the garden. Then, they take away some of the carrots and give them to the bunny in the cup. The number of carrots left on the garden field is the answer to the subtraction equation.

Easter Read Aloud Flipbook

Peter Rabbit is such a classic story and the perfect one to add to kindergarten Easter activities. I remember listening to this story and singing songs about Peter Rabbit when I was little and always look forward to getting to share this with my class.

A flipbook about the story Peter Rabbit. Students practice their reading comprehension and story elements by writing about the setting, main characters, beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Did you know that there are so many story elements that can be practiced? I have created a flipbook for students to write about the setting, main character, beginning, middle, and end of the story.

Decomposing Numbers with Eggs

The last activity I am sharing has students practicing more decomposing of numbers. This skill can be quite challenging to not only learn but also to teach! Therefore, I like to practice decomposing numbers a lot and in many different ways.

A decomposing numbers math activity where students use a mat to act out decomposing each number. Students use eggs in baskets to find all of the addition equations that can be made for each number in the decomposing numbers flipbook.

For this Easter activity, students practice decomposing numbers using eggs in two baskets. They will place the correct number of eggs on the basket mat to show the number they are decomposing. Then, they move the eggs around between the two baskets to show all of the addition equations for that number.
