Are you looking for a fun and memorable way for your students to celebrate their mothers, fathers, and other important people in their lives? Check out these Mother’s and Father’s Day crafts for kindergarten! These craft ideas are easy to prep, fun for students to create, and are always appreciated by parents and guardians.
Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are observed toward the end of the school year. This a time when the schedule is jam-packed with events to attend, curriculum to cover, and assessments to administer. Plus, students are full of energy and eagerly looking forward to summer vacation.
With everything on your plate, it can be tempting to leave crafts out of the lesson plans. However, there are many benefits of using crafts in kindergarten during these busy months! Here are just a few:
These crafts for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are a great way to help your students celebrate the important people in their lives. You’ll find that many of the craft ideas below include options for additional recipients for these special gifts: Aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. This will ensure that this activity is inclusive for all of the students in your classroom.
This Mother’s Day gift includes both a 3D flower craft and a special card that will be treasured for years to come.
First, students will make their choice of 3D flower for the front of the card. Students can choose from a tulip shape or daisy shape for this craft. They can also choose a color that their mom will love! They will then attach special Mother’s Day messages to each layer of petals.
Your students can then attach the flower to the front of the card, along with leaves and a stem.
After creating such a cute card, it can be tricky to decide what to write inside! That’s not the case with this card! Students can choose from a variety of Mother’s Day inserts to attach to the inside of the card:
The final result is a special Mother’s Day card that doubles as a kindergarten memento. Your students and their families will love to look back at this card and remember the sweet and funny things they had to say.
This Father’s Day toolbox craft is a fun take on a traditional Father’s Day questionnaire.
Each tool in the toolbox contains a different prompt for students to complete about their dads or other father figures.
After responding to each writing prompt, students will color and cut out each of the tools. Then they will create this fun toolbox craft for the completed tools!
There is also plenty of space under the flap of the toolbox or on the back of the craft for students to draw pictures or write a personalized Father’s Day greeting.
This craft is similar to the toolbox because it also uses the same tool-shaped Father’s Day questionnaire prompts. Instead of placing the completed tools in a toolbox-shaped card, students will create a tool belt craft instead.
Creating the tool belt is a great exercise in following directions, since students need to leave some edges of the tool belt pieces unglued. They are always so proud of the final product, especially when they see all of the completed tools in the tool belt.
It’s such a great way for students to celebrate the special father figures in their lives!
For another fun twist on the traditional card, students can make a wearable tie craft for the father figures in their lives.
Students can choose which Father’s Day greetings they would like to include on each section of the 3D tie. They can color each one and glue the pieces together.
Once the main part of the tie is complete, students will choose a tie-shaped Father’s Day greeting for the back. There are several to choose from, including:
When the tie is complete, students will attach it to a ribbon or twine to make it wearable. This tie craft is especially fun if you have any sort of Father’s Day celebration at your school. The dads and father figures can wear their 3D ties with pride during the festivities!
